Named after the river that runs through it, Nueces County lies on the Gulf of Mexico, which also serves as its eastern boundary. Jim Wells County is its western neighbor and the counties of San Patricio and Kleberg flank it to the north and south, respectively. Though more well-known for its coastal features and its oil production, Nueces County is also an agricultural and ranching center that provides a variety of Nueces County ranch land to choose from.
Nueces County ranch land is located mostly in the central and western areas of the county since the eastern area is dominated by the county seat, the continuously growing city of Corpus Christi. Further east are Mustang and Padre Islands, which are separated from the mainland by Laguna Madre. Padre Island, the world’s longest undeveloped barrier island, is one of the Gulf Coast’s biggest environmental attractions.
Corpus Christi is the eighth-largest city in Texas and is home to the majority of Nueces County’s population of 313,645. Nicknamed “The Sparkling City by the Sea,” Corpus Christi is a popular tourist destination and is the location of the Hans and Pat Suter Wildlife Refuge, as well as the country’s sixth largest port.
